😮 I'm taking on the 100th Bloody Long Walk! 😮


I was born into this. I just didn’t know it was called mito.

In 1998, my big brother Pete had a stroke-like episode at 34. His diagnosis finally explained the illness that had been running through my family for generations.

In 2009, I helped establish the Mito Foundation.

Pete died later that year. He was just 45. He should have had decades ahead of him. Instead, my nephew and niece had to grow up without their dad, at an age when they were old enough to feel the full weight of it.

Pete’s death broke my Mum. Her health had already been declining from mito, but after he died, it deteriorated quickly. Mum died less than two years after Pete.

That is what mito does. It doesn’t stop at one person. It rips through families. It takes time, health, independence, and lives.

I can’t change what happened to Pete or Mum. But I flat out refuse to accept that this is how the story ends for other families.

🚶 That’s why I’m doing the 100th Bloody Long Walk. 🚶
