Bloody Hell, That's Far!

It started, as many questionable decisions do, with something I saw on Instagram.

The Bloody Long Walk popped up in my feed: 35km of beaches, coastline and beautiful scenery. It immediately reminded me of a long hike Michelle and I did together at Wilsons Prom a few years ago.

And because Michelle's birthday was coming up, I had what I thought was a brilliant idea.

Some people buy their best friend perfume.

Some book a lovely lunch.

I bought mine 35 kilometres of walking and a shuttle bus ticket home.

To be fair, I know how much Michelle likes prosecco, and sometimes it's nice to earn your drink. 🥂

Happy birthday, Michelle! 🎂🥾

We've been best friends for five years, and apparently we've now reached the stage of friendship where giving each other potential blisters counts as an expression of love.

So, in October, we're taking on The Bloody Long Walk, walking 35km in one day to raise money for the Mito Foundation.

I'll admit, the spectacular course was what first caught my attention. But signing up also introduced me to the reason this event exists.

Mitochondrial disease (mito) is a debilitating genetic disorder that affects the mitochondria, the tiny powerhouses responsible for producing the energy our bodies need to function. For people living with mito, something most of us barely think about, having enough energy to simply get through the day, can be an enormous challenge.

There is currently no cure.

So while Michelle and I get to voluntarily use a ridiculous amount of our energy walking 35km along the coast, we're hoping to turn those kilometres into something genuinely worthwhile.

We've set ourselves a fundraising target of $3,000, and this is where you come in.

Please donate.

$10, $20, $50, $100... whatever you can comfortably spare. Every donation helps fund research, support people living with mito and their families, and gets us closer to that $3,000 target.

We'll provide the legs.

You provide the dollars.

And together we'll do some good. ❤️

Our team name?

BLOODY HELL, THAT'S FAR!

Because somewhere around kilometre 28, I'm fairly certain that's exactly what we'll be saying.

Thank you for backing us.

And Michelle, happy birthday.

Next year I'm buying you perfume.

Probably. 😂
