I'm Walking 35km to Cure Mito in The Bloody Long Walk!

Hello Everyone!

This year my housemates and some other friends have decided to participate in our very first Bloody Long Walk! The Bloody Long Walk supports the Mito Foundation which aims to raise much-needed funds to research mitochondrial disease (mito).

Mito is a disease that is very close to home for my housemates and I, with our lovely friend and her family being directly affected.  

To briefly summarise, mito is a genetic disorder that affects the mitochondria in our body and is responsible for producing energy in our cells. There are many different types of mito with varying symptoms, however common symptoms that often persist include;

-          Prolonged Fatigue

-          Hearing Loss

-          Vision loss/Blindness

-          Seizures

-          Strokes

-          Heart conditions and many other adverse health outcomes.

Mito is significantly hard to diagnose, and many individuals can often suffer from symptoms for years before a diagnosis occurs. Unfortunately, at this stage, there is no cure for this disease, and research is still new, this means that it is extremely difficult to attract funders to help support the research process.

All proceeds from this event go directly towards research for better treatments, and diagnosis of mitochondrial disease. Other proceeds go towards raising awareness and education of this not so common disease.
