I'm Walking 35km to Cure Mito in The Bloody Long Walk!
I’ve somehow agreed to walk 35km in The Bloody Long Walk to help Australians living with mitochondrial disease.
Yes. 35 kilometres.
Me.
The person whose preferred form of endurance is sitting completely still with my eyes closed. 😂
Apparently meditation doesn’t count as cardio.
So instead, I’ll be doing approximately 46,200 steps in ONE DAY.
There will be no lotus position.
There will be no blissful stillness.
There will probably be blisters.
But somewhere between “this is such a beautiful idea” and kilometre 27 when I’m questioning every decision I’ve ever made, there’s something important in this for me too.
Spirituality isn’t only found in stillness.
it’s also found in movement.
it’s found in pushing beyond what you thought you could do.
And sometimes it’s found hobbling towards a finish line while serving something much bigger than yourself.
Because however tough my 35km feels, it’s nothing compared with what people living with mitochondrial disease (mito) can face every day.
Mito affects the body’s ability to produce the energy it needs and can cause serious dysfunction across multiple organs. It can affect anyone, at any age.
So please sponsor my walk and help fund desperately needed research into treatments and cures.
Every dollar makes a difference.
And every donation gives me one less excuse to quietly disappear at kilometre 12 and find a café. 😂
Let’s do this. ❤️
P.S. I’m a tree hugger, so if you see me embracing a tree somewhere around kilometre 30, please don’t assume it’s spiritual. I’m probably just using it to hold myself up. 😂🌳
