Walking into the light
My Hubby and I are doing the bloody long walk . We are walking to raise money and awareness for LHON (Lebers hereditary Optic Neuropathy) .🧬 What causes LHON
LHON is caused by mutations in mitochondrial DNA (DNA passed down from the mother). These mutations damage cells in the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain.
👁️ Key symptoms
- Sudden or subacute central vision loss (often in one eye first, then the other .
- Vision loss is often severe and happens very quickly .
- Currently there is no cure but there is research underway with progress happening .
We're walking 35km in The Bloody Long Walk!
Our team is walking 35km in The Bloody Long Walk to help Australians living with mitochondrial disease.
We know we’ll cross the finish line exhausted and blistered, but that’s nothing compared to what people with mitochondrial disease (mito) go through every day of their lives.
Mito robs the body’s cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure. It can affect anyone at any age.
Please sponsor our walk to fund research into desperately needed treatments and cures for this devastating disease.
Every dollar will make a difference.
